The Girlfriend Dance

I don't think I have ever not be weird, or I guess, just did things differently. When I was really little I remember I wanted to be the girl from the 80's Cherry Pie video. No, not for a day, but for a career, that's what I wanted to be when I grew up. I loved that she wore cut offs and red heels and dance around on a car. Later I had more logical plans like being a twister chaser and the president of the entire world... I had strange hobbies, too. I loved digging holes. My parents house has a lot of property that they own around it and a large field past the backyard. I dug so many holes back there, huge ones, four feet deep and six feet wide, literally for no reason. I have since learned to keep my weirdness more hidden. There are so many things I do with Boston that if anyone ever saw I would be completely embarrassed. We make up songs for everything, she see's me with no makeup on, she watches me bathe, we do weird things, and she doesn't think I'm strange. I love that, I love that I can be goofy and weird around her and she will just play and be goofy with me. When I get ready in the morning she watches me and claps for me while I do my hair. She makes me feel like I am important and the strange things I do are not so strange. We 'Dougie together and we chase and hide and make up silly songs together. One of the songs we do is the girlfriend song/dance, where I simply sing "girlfriend girlfriend you're my girlfriend!" (it's extremely insightful lyrics, I know). When we arnt in public and we sing this I stand up and do the worlds most awkward fist pumping dance, (luckily when people are around to witness I do a calmer version) Boston always joins in and laughs and fist pumps with me.

Most moms are kind of weird around their kids. I remember when I was little my mom would say, "Give mama some sugar" and I would give her a cute little cheek against cheek rub. I have a friend, we will just call her Shayla, who told me how a lot of nights she will go and sleep in the same room, on the floor, as her boys, and how she too, has got in their crib with them. I'm glad I have my almost one year old who loves joining in on my weirdness. I secretly hope she grows up to be just as goofy as her mama.

  1. I remember a huge hole we dug one time in your back yard to spy on the neighbors haha! Life would be so boring if there was no weirdness. Keep it up! PS, love the girlfriend dance!
