Epitaph

My mom has judged a lot of pageants in the last 30 years of her life. One of the biggest parts of a pagent that most people don't know about is the interview section. In the Junior Miss pagent I was in when I was 16 each contestant had a ten minute interview with all of the judges before the actual pageant that night, where they were grilled on current events, names of American and foreign leaders, and asked personal questions about themselves (side-note... I totally won that category in the pageant... And no my mom wasn't a judge for it, obviously).

So the real point is my mom has done a lot of pageant interviews and one question she always, without fail, each contestant is; what do you want for your Epitaph. It is sort of a trick question...If the contestant doesn't know the meaning they have two options... The smart option is to admit you are unaware of what that is, ask, and then give your answer. If you don't know what it is and you make up a bogus story you will most likely loose some points. If you do know and give an awesome answer... Props to you!

So, an Epitaph is a short text honoring a person that is engraved on their tombstone... Examples: loving father and husband... War hero...ect... It can be a poem verse or many other stances. My dad taught a lot of people so his says, "to teach a child is to touch a life forever." (If that isn't word for word don't get super mad, I was young when he died).

I have been thinking what I would want mine to say lately, I have zero intentions of going anywhere soon but I am prone to random thoughts. I have been going over what I would want to be remembered by and what my greatest accomplishment has been. I was stumped, then it hit me. All I would need it to say is, "Boston's mom". Up to this point she is my biggest accomplishment and the thing I am the most proud of.

I have done so many wrong and stupid things in my life, she is the thing I can say that I have done right. She is asleep next to me and I am just feeling extremly grateful that even after mistakes and stupid choices I have made I have her, she is what I would want my legacy I leave behind to be.

What would you put as your Epitaph?
