To start off I need to mention I don't like BYU, not of a fan of that university at all. Many reasons are behind this... Partially because of my love and fierce loyalty for a rival in-state school, partially because I don't agree with a lot of their universities guidelines and a lot of other small partially's to go with it. I could say something like I have met plenty of individuals that attend or attended that school who I didn't like... But, I have also met plenty of people who attend or attended USU that I didn't like. Ya know, there are a few things I do like about BYU... I think their coaching staff for their football teams has been outstanding during times and their campus is beautiful and hey, I have had cousins, aunts, uncles and a parent who got their education there.
If you have been keeping up with the media lately you will have noticed that Max Hall, former BYU quarterback, was arrested for procession of shoplifted items and cocaine. To top this off... he was wearing a BYU shirt in his mugshot. I have seen countless people make jokes of this... and, as much as my Utah State University loving self wants to join in I can't do so. I can't judge him, I can't laugh at this situation because I have made mistakes as well, I have done things that I know I shouldn't have. It's mind blowing to me that we are so quick to judge and laugh at someone else as soon as they make a wrong choice, how quickly we are to take cheap shots at someone when they are down. I can't judge him because I have friends who have suffered from addictions and it really isn't something to laugh at.
So, to stop myself from going on and on... BYU, you're still not in my top ten universities, but I hope that Max Hall gets the help he needs. My best wishes and thoughts go to his family.
