You look like "a mom"

While growing up, in high school, in the past few years and even recently I  have been paranoid about looking like "a mom". You can't wear certain jeans because they are "mom jeans" once I cut my hair and after I did it I felt I looked just like "a mom". I hope that I am not the only person who has been guilty of saying "you look just like a mom" or "that's totally a mom 'feel in the blank' look". I realized just this weekend how big of an A-hole I seem for even thinking these things. I was at the mall grabbing some shoes on Saturday and I just got done with the gym, my hair was in a gross ponytail, no makeup and I basically looked pretty bad. I ran into three people I knew while I was there and I told them how I was so embarrassed to run into people I knew and apologized for "looking just like a mom". On my way home I started to kick myself in the butt for realizing that myself and so much of society have used the term "looking like a mom" in somewhat of a negative matter.

It doesn't matter If you look like a supermodel with flat abs and a six pack just weeks after giving birth  or if you look like you may have wore the same pontytail for four days in a row (which I'm actually going on day five) moms are amazing. It doesn't matter if you have 12 kids or one, if your child is one week old or 65, if you are a working mom or a stay at home mom, if you are a single mom or a happily married mom you have made the decision to make someone else your priority, to sacrifice and to love unconditionally.

You gave birth, you endured so much during labor and pregnancy, you are a super hero, and even if you were unable to get the opportunity to be pregnant with a child you have done and spent so much to be able to be a mom by raising a child to give them a better life by adopting. You  gave up free time, "you time", old habits, ect... There is so much that you do to make sure another human is taken care of completely, and that is a lot of work. You become a Dr. a teacher, a friend, a bank, an advisor, a referee, a shoufer, a shoulder to cry on, a maid and a million more things.

From all of these things you take the role of looking like "a mom" should be something we say with honor, something that is taken as a huge complement when we get told we look like.

So, here is to you, moms, you are all awesome, you are all admirable and you are all someone that I would love to look like! Here is to the moms breaking the mold, here is to the fact that there is no certain look to being a mom! Whether you are a mom that wears jeans, sweats, a business suit, high heals or yoga pants wear your "mom look" with pride!

Here is a small sample of moms and not one of them looks close to the same. Next time I think I look such like "a mom" I will consider myself lucky!
