Tomorrow my grandma Darlene turns 86 and she has been in the hospital for almost two weeks now. She hasn't been recovering like everyone had hoped for. Growing up she was the only grandma I knew; she has been such an amazing grandma to me and an amazing great-grandma to my baby. Excluding my parents my grandparents were the biggest supporters I had. They didn't miss one recital, game, or anything in between. The most awesome part about that is that I was only one of seventeen grandchildren and they were the same amazing supporters to all of us; not even just us seventeen but to every kid they knew, they took on a role of being 'community grandparents'. I tease my grandma like crazy and because she is smart enough she usually doesn't take one thing I say seriously (she literally doubted my pregnancy for a while). We both love sweets, hate bread and are probably the worst two campers in our family. Their are so many qualities she has that I would be more than lucky to have, but I am so fortunate to be able to see a lot of those qualities in my mom, sisters, uncles and cousins. The thought of my grandparents being just a memory is a thought I don't like. Go tell your grandparents you love them right now, they are a special generation.
Happy birthday, Granda Darlene.

She thought my glasses were so funny... So she had to try them on.
I'm so sorry to hear this! Your grandma has always been such an amazing person and so wonderful to our family. Please tell her we are thinking of her.
