My Mom **happy birthday

Mothers are a strange breed of people.... They do so much for you and it's hard to fathom why. They sacrifice their body for you and even their health, and they sacrifice pants and shirts that fit them while they are pregnant with you. Then you get here and they sacrifice sleep and their time for you. They wipe your bum and put up with the tantrums. They go without so you can have more when you are a teenager and you think you need certain things. They do so much without really getting anything in return... Some hugs, a homemade present occasionally, or a cheap store-bought present are the only payment they receive. Then you get older and you move out and you think to yourself that you just can't possibly understand why someone would sacrifice and do so much for you and not really get anything in return. Then the day comes where if you are lucky you become a mom yourself and for the first time you get it... and it finally clicks. You get it because you have finally met the person you are willing to do anything for as well and it all makes sense why they did so much for you.

It wasn't until I became a mom that I finally and fully appreciated my own mother. If you know my mom you are lucky. She is smart, she is fun, she is thoughtful, she is talented, she is strong, she is classy and she is an amazing grandma. I would dare say one of them best. When I am with her and Boston I become the third-wheel. Boston's face lights up and she gets so excited on the days she gets to go to grandmas house and eat pancakes and play outside when I have to work. In fact just last week Boston was being a little bit naughty and I threatened a time-out... Just minutes after that I found Boston on my phone making a phone call to my mom letting her know that I was being mean.

My mom always made sure to not just spend money on us but time with us as well. Knowing that her presence was more important that her presents. I had a close friend growing up whose mom would buy her anything and everything but was hardly around when she needed her. Her mom had a serious drug-addiction problem and my mom made sure to not only help keep that from me but help my friend as well. It took me a while to really grasp that my mom was truly one of the best ones out there.

I am writing this because tomorrow happens to be her birthday. The gifts Boston and I picked out to give to her can never really show her how much we love her but I hope she knows anyways. If your mom is one of the best ones, too, tell her you love her today.
Happy Birthday, Mom! Love you.

This is my mom as a baby and my Grandma Darlene. I found this picture for he first time this year and fell in love with it because you can see how much Boston looks like her here.

  1. Sorry to comment on so many of your blogs all in the same day... But your blog has sucked me in. I can't stop reading! And this cute lil blog brought me to tears, you are an amazing mom. And your mom is also very amazing. And your elegant wording really made me think about how grateful I am for my mom-and made me realize how proud I am to be a momma myself! You're great Ash-that's all there is to it!
