The LDS church and the Seattle Seahawks

Here is my background story.... I grew up LDS. I have an amazing family. Amazing. They go to church regularly but they also don't condone you if you don't. They follow the churches guidelines but they cuss on occasion and don't judge if you aren't following those guidelines yourself. I attended and graduated from seminary and loved that I got to be the president in my churches young women s group. I am blessed. NO, I am going to be more exact and say that I am lucky.

I can't tell you when the moment was that I started pulling away from the church but I did. I hung out with friends who didn't have much to do with it, I went to events that had nothing to do with it and I just started to have other priorities. Here is the honest truth... I don't regret it either. When I found out I was pregnant with Boston I knew I wanted to go again.... for her. While I was pregnant I got to know ward members, I met with my bishop and I was excited to have a nice ward for her to be blessed in. My dad blessed Boston in my current ward. My family and friends all came to her blessing in our ward and I loved the experience.

A few months after her blessing I would take her to church and I got bothered that I would always get asked where her dad was and sometimes felt out of place in a very family oriented church. We are a family, of course, but it isn't the typical family, ya know. So, again I pulled away feeling slightly resentful towards the church. I was pretty salty about the whole situation.

Here is the best analogy I could come up with and it is about sports so excuse me already for it.... It's a well known fact that my favorite NFL team is the New England Patriots but I also like the Seahawks. They have an amazing defense and two of my former classmates play there. With that being said I am not super fond of the Seahawks fan base... "12th man" people aren't my favorite; they are so into your face. Just because I don't always like the Sea-hawks fans doesn't mean I don't think Russell Wilson an amazing quarterback. On the flip side I have a nephew who is a huge Seahawks fan and he is pretty great. Their are all types (if you are a Sewhawks fan just ignore me and know I love you).

I think other people, like me, may have been offended by the churches people at one point and it's hard to remember that people in the church aren't perfect always but I honestly know that a lot of what church teaches is. Trust me, it is sooo much easier said than done to think this. I have met some people who are Catholic and they are real jerks but before I say that the Catholic church as a whole is dumb I remember that they are just people, not the whole religion.

I had the nicest visiting teachers stop by our house the other night to visit Boston and I... They were good people. Really good. I usually avoid religious talk on my blog just because ya know, I am not the most religious person but lately I have seen so many religion bashing on social media and it made my heart a little said. This is a random post I guess what I am trying to get to is that I'm going to work better on not judging my religion on it's '12th man'.

Like always, this is more of a personal post for me so I am nervous to hit publish, so if you disagree a lot with what a wrote don't be too hard on me.

  1. This is awesome. If we all were more Christlike church would be an easier place to be and that is our goal. I hope you continue to have good experiences with the LDS church. I'm sure your situation is not the easiest in the church setting but you are setting an AMAZING example and I am so so happy I got to hear your story.
